Chip? Crack? Call In Mr Storey

THERE'S no need to panic if you chip or crack a much-loved piece of crystal glassware, porcelain or china, or if your favourite golf trophy has lost its sheen.

Mr Basil Storey, of Pymble Restorations and Trophies, can restore them to their former glory for a moderate charge.

He is the agent for a team of skilled craftsmen who mend, restore or replate valuable ornaments, trophies and household items.

His craftsmen can cut, grind and rebevel a glass, vase or bowl.

A chipped crystal glass, for example, can be repaired for $20, a big saving on the price of a replacement.

Glasses can also be restemmed or fitted with a new base.

Replating a silver teaspoon or fork costs $12, while a priceless family heirloom such as a silver teapot may be replated from about $120.

A master clockmaker repairs clocks, including antiques, while other specialists restore sacred vessels used in churches, re-bristle sterling silver brushes, re-silver mirrors of all sizes, and polish brass or copper items.

"I also have a cabinetmaker and french polisher, and another chap who specialises in sterling silver work," Mr Storey said.

"I don't think that any other place in Sydney provides the range of restoration services which are available here."

One unusual restoration was a brass-topped table which bore an inscription from the Koran. The finished job delighted the customer.

A steady stream of customers visited Mr Storey with items including a broken ornamental candlestick and a leaking silver teapot when The Northern Herald called last week.

And Mr Storey confides that do-it-yourself handymen sometimes bring in items that have not passed the close scrutiny of their wives.

So the next time you are tempted to reach for a tube of glue when you break something valuable, he advises you to visit his shop at 6 Post Office Street, Pymble, for a quote.

Mr Storey also supplies new cups and trophies for schools and clubs throughout Australia.

His giftware includes pewter tankards and goblets, silver-plated frames for family photographs, and christening presents.

Pymble Restorations and Trophies is open Monday to Friday, 10 am to 5 pm. Inquiries phone 988 3909.
